WHAT IS EXPRESSIVE ARTS THERAPY?
The arts have been one of the important healing resources throughout history playing a key role ingrained within health traditions cross-culturally. Expressive Arts Therapy (EXAT) is combining psychology through verbal and non-verbal expressions in different modalities of arts, offering a safe and trusting space and opportunities to facilitating participants express their emotions and thoughts to achieve body, mind and spirit healing effects. EXAT is different from other art workshops in that it is carried out by registered therapist with a plan and treatment goals, with continuous evaluation and follows up on the participants. Only registered expressive art therapists can provide relevant treatment services.
People of any age, including toddlers, children, adolescents, mainstream and special needs students, adults, women, parent-child, working people, disability, patients, people with mental issues or the one with social needs, and the elderly, can benefit from EXAT. Especially people with intellectual disability, autism, cancer, mental illness, Post-traumatic stress disorder or dementia can participate. It is also for people not only having mental or, healthy issues, but also for the ordinary people for self-discovery and self-growth.
Since EXAT focuses more on the process than the result, the participants do not need any artistic background or artistic skills. EXAT is suitable for anyone.

THERAPIST CAN DO MIND-READING？
No. Though, the artwork created by oneself is genuine, the role of an EXAT therapist is more like a accompany, discussing creation with participants through artworks, helping them understand themselves, express their feelings, and achieve the treatment goal. How the creator interprets the artworks is more important.
QUALIFICATION OF AN EXPRESSIVE ARTS THERAPIST？
Expressive arts therapists have professional knowledge in multi-arts and psychology with applications, they need to be registered and certified by relevant professional institutions, with a master's degree from a recognised academic institution and participated in more than 750 practicum hours, from which to establish the experiences of treating different targets and symptoms.
ALL OF US CAN CONDUCT EXAT？
Cannot. General art creation is different from the EXAT. The purpose of the former is to share the joy of making. There is no treatment goals nor relationship building with a therapist. Therefore, by definition, an artistic creation cannot be regarded as EXAT. EXAT is performed by a registered and qualified expressive arts therapist.
